About AOL broadband

AOL has been offering broadband for more than 10 years and has over 1.7 million customers across the UK. It currently offers two broadband packages, as well as options to bundle your broadband with home phone calls and even inclusive line rental.

The AOL Broadband service

AOL currently offers two broadband packages - one with an 18 month contract, the other with no contract - though you will have to pay a connection fee if you don’t sign a contract.

Both of AOL’s broadband packages come with speeds of up to 8Mb and monthly download limits of 10GB and can be combined with a range of call packages and line rental.

AOL broadband regional pricing

AOL applies “regional pricing” to packages outside of its local loop unbundled (LLU) areas. Although AOL is working to expand its LLU network, customers currently living outside of these areas will have to pay an extra £5 a month for their broadband.

AOL Broadband benefits

All AOL Broadband packages come with a free wireless router as well as broadband bundle options.

AOL also offers free telephone customer support from an AOL phone between 8am and midnight, as well as 24 hour online support with its Live Help service.

AOL Broadband awards & accreditations

However, AOL has also received some negative awards in the past year.

Our expert’s verdict

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “AOL Broadband is best suited to low level users, or customers looking for a no contract broadband package.

“However, providers such as Plusnet Broadband (www.Plus.net) and O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) offer cheaper packages and both have won a range of awards in recent years for their reliable services and customers satisfaction.”
