Roll Out Be

14-02-07 - Be Broadband, provider of the UK’s fastest internet service, unbundled its 500th exchange this week, extending its coverage to a third of UK households. Visit www.be.co.uk

The company, which is wholly owned by O2, offers speeds of up to 24Mb Broadand – three times faster than the highest possible speeds offered by BT and many of their competitors – and have won awards for their ground-breaking service.

Matthew Key, CEO of O2 UK said: “We don’t think of broadband as just something to throw in for free. Proper broadband takes continual innovation and focus.”

And next generation broadband like the type offered by Be would allow consumers to use their internet in a totally new way with protocols like TV over broadband becoming much more popular.

However, Be’s poor coverage means that many people are unable to take advantage of its ADSL2+ technology. Chris Eagle, BroadbandChoices Communication Manager said: “It’s great that Be is finally expanding its network. It offers great technology and speeds, but has struggled to roll out it service. This year things look set to change. The benefits of having up to 24Mb broadband are endless will bring the UK up to speed with many of our European neighbours.”

Be is on target to unbundle over 800 exchanges by the end of the summer, allowing them to offer next generation broadband to 50 per cent of the country while the rest of the UK would be covered by BT in a wholesale deal.
