Be is offering 'more than 8Mb'

Be launches ‘More Than 8Mb’ campaign’

Garnet Roach garnet@consumerchoices.co.uk

Super-fast broadband provider Be Broadband has launched a new “Broadband Heaven” campaign promoting its faster, up to 24Mb speeds.

The ISP, which is owned by O2 (www.O2.co.uk) is using the slogan “don’t get up to 8Mb, but get more than 8Mb”.

"Be currently offers the fastest broadband in the UK according to many independent sources"

Felix Geyr, Managing Director of Be Broadband (www.BeThere.co.uk), said: “Be has always strived to be transparent and honest to its customers. Coupled with the recent launch of Be’s speed estimation tool, new customers can check the speed they will receive, rather than the ‘up to’ that other ISPs provide. As Be currently offers the fastest broadband in the UK according to many independent sources, for many customers this will mean they can get more than 8Mb. We look forward to offering more of the UK’s broadband customers our excellent service and welcoming them to broadband heaven.”

To tie in with the announcement, Be has also launched a mini-site www.MoreThan8Meg.com to highlight the problems faced by consumers in “broadband hell”.

Be described “broadband hell” as having a line that keeps buffering when you’re trying to watch YouTube or the BBC iPlayer; takes ages to download music, movies and TV shows; has poor reliability and loses its connection all the time or is throttled by your provider.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Most people in the UK on an ‘up to 8Mb’ package only get about 3Mb or 4Mb if they’re lucky. Although it’s much harder to deliver on a speed as high as 24Mb than it is on something like 2Mb or 8Mb - simply offering ‘more than 8Mb’ rather than an unachievable theoretical maximum is a great way to get customers interested in super-fast broadband and all it can offer.”
