Broadband for Gamers
(20-08-07) - Broadband provider Freedom2Surf (www.Freedom2Surf.net) has launched a new packaged aimed specifically at gamers that claims to reduce ping by “up to 50 per cent”.
The new Broadband 4 Gamers - or BB4G as it’s known - is designed to minimise network hops so that online gamers can connect to their PCs to game servers as quickly as possible and with the least amount of ping.
The ISP has also promised those who sign up to the new package, which offers up to 8Mb broadband and 50GB usage allowance for only £24.99 a month, that no traffic management will be placed on connections to the Wireplay server which supports games like Half-life Counterstrike, Enemy Territory and Freelancer, among others.
Customers can also boost the usage limit on the no contract package to 100GB per month for only £6 extra.
Chris Eagle, BroadbandChoices.co.uk commercial manager, said: “This package is good for anyone using real-time applications such as VoIP or online games and doesn’t want a delay.
“Online gamers, along with downloaders on peer-to-peer networks are the first to be targeted by ISP traffic management, so this is a great package for regular gamers, especially those who play games supported by the Wireplay server. However, there is no guarantee against traffic management on other servers,” he added.
Although the package comes with free set-up and no contract, those leaving within six months will have to pay the £49.99 exit fee.
