The results for November's Ultimate Speed League Table are in and this month we have compared broadband providers of up to 8Mbps and up to 2Mbps.

Using the results from our downloadable speedtester, we have calculated the average speed of each provider so you can check out where your ISP ranks...

3 Sky Broadband 3.7
4 Eclipse 3.4
5 Plusnet 3.2
6 TalkTalk 3.1
7 Orange 3.0
8 BT Broadband 2.9

3 Sky Broadband 1.3

These tables use data collected from November 2008, and use data only from providers who have done 1000 or more tests over the month. None of the results have been deleted, adapted or manipulated – these tables display honest results and allow you to see the truth behind your ISP’s claims.

How is your ISP performing?

* Karoo received an average speed of 4Mbps but have been excluded from the tables as they are not a UK wide provider and so is unrepresentative.

how can BT offer high speed with no slowing down to It's customers, yet I rent a BT line for my 20mg sky broardband with a download speed of only 2.5- 3.0mg. and being told it's all the line can support? - Nov 13 2009 12:30PM

I'm on a slow rural exchange, and therefore irrespective of provider I would screw up anybodys figures, wouldn't I? IE in my area it's not the provider that's the problem, it's the exchange...Have I got it right? - Dec 17 2008 2:25PM

I am on Sky Max and have been getting 12mbits constant for over a year now. it's true what they say about not slowing your speed down as I can download any time without any slow downs. Having read comments by users of Virgins 20mb service, I think that they are being ripped off. I was with Virgin and was not impressed with their speeds and restrictions. Join Sky its cheaper(just now. It's goig up in March) - Dec 17 2008 1:12AM

I have a 20mg broadband connection and with the brooadband speedtester showing an average of 13.8mg.download speeed over a 1 week period ( pretty poor)
If virgin are proposing a 50mg download they need to ensure that the current download speeds are up to speed.

Karoo is ADSL2 + and I average 8+ using it at all times during the day and night.

Discounting it is hiding the truth, its the main user for the area.

How do you know that people using your tester arent downloading from other sites? . how do you know that their connections are configured properly? How do you know that they arent using a bad wireless connection?

are you aware that Karoo no longer have any 8mbit services?

i strongly suspect that an average of 4mbit for Karoo is wrong. I am on their "best" package on ADSL2+ synced at 16mb and get under 1mbit at peak every evening and have done for some time....
