The new BT ToGo phone lets you connect to the net for cheaper calls

BT launches new Broadband Anywhere package

Garnet Roach garnet@consumerchoices.co.uk

A new broadband package incorporating an internet phone that connects wirelessly to the internet for cheaper calls has been launched by BT (07-05-08).

The new BT Total Broadband Anywhere (www.BT.com) package costs £23.99 a month for the first three months and £29.99 thereafter, and as well as 8Mb broadband and a land line, customers will get a BT ToGo smartphone worth around £150.

BT ToGo phones connect wirelessly when in range of a wifi signal to provider cheaper calls over the internet. Outside of wifi range, the ToGo phone package comes with a 10MB download allowance (£1.50 per additional MB) and 50 anytime call minutes and 50 texts. More expensive phone deals offering a higher number of inclusive minutes and texts are also available.

The home broadband side of the Broadband Anywhere package offers customers the premium Option 3 broadband service with “unlimited” downloads (subject to a fair usage policy), a free HomeHub router and phone, free online and ToGo phone security and 5GB of digital vault storage space.

Broadband Anywhere customers will also be automatically join the BT Fon service, to share a portion of their home internet with other BT Fon users, while keeping the remainder secured behind their encryption key.

This then allows them to connect for free to more than 82,000 BT Fon hotspots and 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots in the UK using any wireless device including the ToGo phone.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “The BT Fon network is a great system to bring hotspots to local areas and not just coffee shops.

“Although it’s a bit pricy, this new package, with its wirelessly enabled ToGo phone and free connection to the BT Openzone and Fon hotspots will really help customers take the internet anywhere.”

  1. I have had the mobile phone for around 3 weeks now and I find it really great.. I can check my 'e' mail with the phone, it has a easy to use keyboard its just like a computer. would advise any one who has BT total broadband to give this a try... it only cost an extra £5 per month onto your broadband package and no other extra costs ... nice one BT ..
