BT Service Offers Consumer Value

BT is now offering home PC users a new broadband maintenance service. An engineer can come and install broadband on your PC, check your online security and configure a wireless network, ensuring that your network and PC are secure.

With online fraud seen as a growth area as more people sign up to broadband, this is a welcome and significant move by BT to help the average home PC user. The service won’t be free, but the cost isn’t expected to be unreasonable.

This is a significant move with the recent arrival of some ‘free’ broadband services. BT has stuck to its valued principals and differentiated itself by offering online fraud and virus protection rather than a dirt-cheap service.

We have found that over 73% of broadband users consider themselves venerable to online fraud. Our survey was conducted via our website over a period of four months.

We estimate that, of the 100,000 wireless routers being purchased each month, over 80% are not secured. Many residential addresses can connect to their neighbour’s wireless networks.

This has implications for the home user’s security and the speed of their connection, as many homes are unwittingly sharing broadband connections.

We welcome this move by BT to help the home PC and broadband consumer by offering a service that will help combat online fraud and secure home wireless networks.
