Virgin Media has announced a new daily rate for customers going online with their mobile phones.
From 8 December, Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) customers will be able to surf the net, check their emails and update their Facebook pages for just 30p a day - up to three times cheaper than most other networks.
Graeme Oxby, Virgin Mobile managing director, said: “As handsets get smarter and faster, mobile web usage has increased significantly and more customers than ever are using their handset to connect them to the internet when they’re not at home.
“By providing unlimited access at a highly competitive rate, we are giving all our customers the opportunity to use the internet on their phone, without having to worry about racking up huge bills or working out complicated price structures.”
Many people who do not have mobile broadband use the internet on their mobile phones to check emails, get directions and even book cinema tickets.
However, Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, warned users to be careful how much time they spend on the net with their mobile phone. “Although this 30p per day rate is very cheap, it comes with just a 25MB fair usage policy,” he said. “And any data you download after that amount will be charged at a whopping £2 per MB.”
