Christmas doesn't stall the internet
(31-12-07) - Bargain hunters went online this Christmas in a bid to snap up the best of the January sale bargains according to ISP PlusNet.
The Sheffield based broadband provider said that consumers didn’t let Christmas day stop them from logging on, and published its list of the top 10 most popular sites.
It tracked customer’s internet usage over Christmas day and said that the most popular time of day to log on was at around 10pm.
After Google and the BBC, YouTube came third as people watched the Queen’s speech online for the first time, while social networking sites Facebook and Bebo took fourth and fifth place respectively, with people sending Christmas wishes to friends and family online.
The Apple and Microsoft websites, along with Argos and Marks & Spencer also made the top 10 as consumers sought out deals before the sales officially started on December 26, or looked up technical advice for new gadgets they had received as presents.
The top 10 sites visited on Christmas day were:
Google
BBC
YouTube
Facebook
Bebo
Apple
Argos
Wikipedia
Microsoft
Marks & Spencer
“The shops may be shut but the internet is always open,” said Neil Armstrong, products director at PlusNet (www.Plus.net). ”Christmas Day internet usage shows that there is no day of rest for the British bargain hunter with many unable to wait until Boxing Day to bag the best deal.”
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, added: “People rely on the internet even more over the festive period as they’re off work and the kids are home. It can be used to download songs for newly opened iPods, look up TV schedules or instructions on setting up new technical gadgets that are a favourite at Christmas, as well as hitting the sales - without the hassle - before they even begin.
“However, users need to be careful that they don’t exceed downlaod limits with all this extra internet activity,” he advised.
