Direct Save Telecom launched in 1999, aiming to offer “a dependable and reliable service” with no contract. It offers rolling 28 day broadband plans - perfect for customers who only need broadband for a short time, or who simply don’t want to sign a long contract.
The Direct Save Telecom offers three broadband packages; each with “unlimited broadband” downloads, subject to a fair usage policy, during off-peak hours and a set monthly download allowance of 5GB, 20GB or 40GB. Extra usage outside of your allowance is charged at £1.95 per GB.
Each package comes as part of a bundle; 8Mbps broadband plus unlimited phone calls for a monthly subscription. With this, you get a static IP address, unlimited off-peak usage, and access to a UK-based customer services helpline. Customers also get a free modem. There is no long-term contract to sign, so customers can cancel their service at 28 days’ notice. However, customers must pay a £29.95 connection fee.
Direct Save Telecom’s greatest draw is its no contract broadband packages, which allow users to cancel with just 28 days notice.
It also offers cheap broadband - starting at just £9.74 a month. And although each of its packages comes with a set download limit, the unlimited off-peak allowance makes up for this. Its line rental is also cheaper than many competitors at just £10.63 a month.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Direct Save Telecom is a good choice for anyone looking for a short contract broadband package that offers a faster, more reliable download speed than mobile broadband.
“However, users need to keep an eye on their download limit. Even though customers get free off-peak downloads between midnight and 6pm, anyone who spends most of their time online in the evening should install our free Broadband Download Monitor to ensure they never exceed their limit,” He advised.
“Alternatively, Be Broadband (www.BeThere.co.uk) also offers three and nine month contracts, with speeds of up to 24Mb, unlimited downloads and very generous fair usage policies - though packages do cost more than Direct Save Telecom’s Lite and Family packages.”
