Eclipse goes Green
(26-06-07) - Broadband provider Eclipse has announced that it is now carbon neutral in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of its broadband business and attract green consumers.
Having taken their electricity consumption through business travel, deliveries and commuting by employees into account, Eclipse has set up a carbon offsetting programme. The programme includes investing in wind farm technologies in India, a methane capture project in Pennsylvania and a Ugandan forestry project - all projects that are designed to support local communities as well.
A spokeswoman for Eclipse said: “Although many organisations do not take the carbon cost of commuting on board when calculating carbon emissions, it accounts for a significant proportion of any company’s CO2 outputs (23 per cent in the case of Eclipse).”
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at BroadbandChoices.co.uk added: “While the effectiveness of offsetting programmes has been disputed, it is still encouraging to see Eclipse reducing its overall carbon footprint.
“This should increase their popularity with eco-conscious consumers who increasingly want to see companies doing their bit to tackle climate change too.”
