Free Sony PlayStation 3 with AOL

(27-11-07) - Following the success of its “free laptop” offer, customers signing up to AOL Broadband Wireless Plus can now get their hands on a “free” Sony PlayStation 3.

The 40GB games console is worth around £299 and comes with Blu-ray technology to allow users to watch high-definition movies. It can also be used to store photos, music and videos and to access online gaming.

However, “free” does of course have a catch; as with the free Dell laptop offer, customers wanting to claim their free PlayStation 3 will have to sign up to AOL Broadband Wireless Plus (www.AOL.co.uk) for 24 months.

The £19.99 monthly broadband package offers an up to 8Mb connection, 40GB download allowance, a free wireless router worth £50 and includes the AOL Talk Pay As You Go Plan. Customers not yet living in an AOL unbundled (LLU) area will have to pay an additional £10 a month.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “The main issue here is the same as the free laptop offer, which also carried a mammoth contract.

“While this is a tempting offer - many people will find a free Sony PlayStation 3 an attractive prospect - people need to think about the faster speeds and better value deals that they would be missing out on over the next two years that they’re tied into their AOL contract.

“On the other hand, 8Mb downloads - when reliable - and a 40GB usage allowance is more than enough for the average user, so if you don’t think you’ll be increasing your internet usage over the coming 24 months, this, or the free laptop offer that is still available, might be just what you want,” he added.
