Freedom4wifi
Broadband provider Freedom4wifi is a new concept in internet subscriptions. Rather than selling its own fixed line or Mobile Broadband packages, Freedom4wifi offers customers access to more than 40,000 wifi hotspots across the world.
Freedom4wifi offers three different packages; a pay-as-you-go option, a pre-pay tariff and a monthly subscription so there’s something to suit all needs.
Freedom4wifi works with a whole host of other wifi providers to offer its customers access to the internet at any BT Openzone hotspot, Hilton Hotel, Café Nero and hundreds of other wireless connections worldwide.
You simply sign up, find a hotspot and log in using the same Freedom4wifi login no matter which wireless network you’re connecting to.
The Freedom4wifi service
Freedom4wifi has three different packages to choose from; Freedom4 You, Freedom4 Now and Freedom4 Wifi, none of which have a minimum contract term.
The Freedom4 You is a pay-as-you-go option that charges 8p per minute to use the Freedom4wifi service in the UK and 25p per minute abroad.
The Freedom4 Now is a pre-pay tariff that that costs £4.50 for 60 minutes of wireless internet access in any one 24-hour period.
Finally, Freedom4 Wifi is the company’s only monthly payment plan, giving you 2,000 inclusive minutes for £9.99 a month. After the allowance is used up, access costs 12p per minute in the UK and 25p per minute abroad.
What makes it so great?
As an alternative to fixed line or mobile broadband, the Freedom4wifi service lets you access thousands of hotspots for a fixed monthly cost, or at a low pay-as-you-go or pre-pay rate if you’ll only need it occasionally.
Like a mobile broadband contract, you won’t have to pay line rental on the connection - saving you up to £132 a year - and you’ll also be able to connect in hotels, coffee shops and airports without having to worry about losing your connection, or the high cost of your usage.
The ISPs website also has a hotspot finder that can even help you find a hotel with a connection you can use. It also offers a text message service to help you find your nearest wireless connection.
Do I need to buy any hardware?
All you need to get connected to the Freedom4wifi service is a wireless device such as a laptop with wifi connectivity or even a PDA or Blackberry.
Is it right for me?
If you travel a lot - either for business or leisure - then this is a great service for you. It not only allows you to connect to hotspots in cafés and restaurants at train stations, in hotels and at airports while you wait for your flight, but the monthly plan even offers inclusive roaming minutes so that you can get connected no matter where you are in the world.
