Hull Broadband

Broadband in the Hull area

If you live in the Hull area then your broadband and telecoms are supplied by Kingston Communications (Kcom). Hull is an exception to the UK market, where communications are not available from alternative networks, such as the landline network (built by BT) and the cable network now run by Virgin Media.

For more information of the history of telecoms in Hull there is an excellent WIkipedia page

According to Kcom, they fully adhere to Ofcom's regulations that state that Kcom must offer a range of wholesale broadband access products to organisations via their network. This means that Kcom is open to any ISP that wants to offer their broadband service through Kcom's network.

Just got directed to this page. Live in the HU12 post code area but have both BT and KC lines available so this page is incorrect for me. - Feb 11 2010 11:23AM
I have read with interest all the points raised with regard to Kingston Comms and agree with them all. I have a speedy 8Mb connection here, but costs a total of £30 a month (line plus broadband), competition would soon bring that down. Several of my friends have done away with their landline and use mobile only, much cheaper. - Jan 8 2010 9:43PM

How many comments before you correct your information ??? Just because we are at the terrible mercy of BT's monopoly!!! - Nov 13 2009 1:45PM
May I advise you that phone number 01964 is NOT Kingston Communications, it is BT - Nov 6 2009 1:00PM
Your system has slipped up badly. Just because I have an HU postcode does not mean I am within the Kingston Communications area. This should be obvious from the area telephone code, 01964 not 01482!

I was invited to a meeting, by the local MP, with Ofcom recently. The small group there made it very clear to Ofcom that the residents of Hull area were unhappy that we cannot have a choice or healthy competition for telecommunications in Hull. It was explained that Ofcom have no power to enforce any change. It would appear that the other Companies 'believe' that Hull residents are tremendously loyal to KingCom and wouldn't want change. It is up to Hull residents to make it clear to these companies that the observation is no longer true, and that we would WELCOME a choice and that it would become profitable for their companies to 'come into' Hull.' Other than that it will be a long long wait for legislation to give more powers to Ofcom. - Sep 30 2009 7:58AM
