KC to provide 15,000 homes and businesses with “lightning fast” fibre optic service this year.
KC is to bring 100Mb broadband to Hull and East Yorkshire this year.
The company - the only broadband provider in the Hull area - will deliver access to what it describes as a “lightning fast” fibre optic service to 15,000 homes and businesses in 2012.
Fibre will be installed in parts of east and west Hull, to the north of Hull, in Beverley and in several East Yorkshire villages.
Kevin Walsh, KC’s chief executive, said: “We’ve embarked on this ambitious fibre roll-out programme to give our customers the best connected homes and businesses in the UK. This will give them access to the world of information, communication and entertainment that the internet offers at lightning speeds.”
KC is to offer users its fibre broadband services - KC Lightstream and KC Lightstream Business - to customers in the form of six home packages and five business packages.
Home users will be able to get “fibre for a fiver,” with KC offering its superfast service for just Ł5 more than its most popular broadband package that runs though the traditional copper wire telephone network.
There are four KC Lightstream broadband-only packages, offering speeds between 45Mb and 100Mb, priced from Ł25 per month, and two phone and broadband bundles, priced from Ł35 per month.
KC plans to deliver fibre broadband using fibre to the premises (FTTP), where fibre is connected directly to customers’ properties. BT uses fibre to the cabinet (FTTC), where fibre is laid to street cabinets, but slower copper wire is used to connect customers to the cabinet.
Homes and businesses in the Grovehill area of Beverley will be the first to get KC’s fibre broadband, with installations beginning on Monday 6 February. Subject to engineering surveys, the following areas will also be able to access fibre broadband this year:
