Average UK broadband speed passes 7Mb
Average UK broadband speeds have passed 7Mb for the first time, latest speed test results have shown.
As usual, cable giant Virgin Media kept the top spot with an impressive 13.4Mb in March - more than double the speeds delivered by its nearest competitors.
Eclipse Internet, which launched its own superfast broadband connections over the BT network last year, continued to climb up the speed charts offering an average 6.8Mb.
O2 and BE broadband, which share a network, came in joint third place, and BT - which has been rolling out its BT Infinity fibre packages - was named the fourth fastest supplier, and the latest to deliver more than 5Mb to its customers.
"Overall the average of all suppliers breaks the 7Mb barrier for the first time," said Broadband.co.uk, which carried out the research.
This was an increase from 6.7Mb in February, taken from tens of thousands of monthly speed tests.
