Less than 10% of Brits would give up their internet connection in order to save cash, a new study has revealed.
The research shows just how important broadband has become, as 93% said that they wouldn’t ditch their internet - up from 81% last year.
Second on the list was digital TV, with 62% of Brits loath to give up their cable or satellite TV - though this was a drop from 2009 figures when 67% of people wanted to keep hold of their TV service.
Steve Fletcher, head of retail banking for Yorkshire Bank, which conducted the research, said: “Broadband internet access has clearly become a priority for those homes that have it.
“The increasing use of broadband for our entertainment; downloading music, viewing film and TV and linking to games consoles, shows a shift in lifestyles generally but is also a possible reflection of cuts in spending on entertainment away from the home.”
Nights out in restaurants and bars were most likely to go when people have to economise, the research revealed, followed by takeaways and trips to the cinema, theatre or concerts.
Michael Phillips, Broadbandchoices.co.uk product director, added: “Broadband has become much more accessible as prices have fallen and many people now use the internet every day.
“Switching broadband provider is a great way to save money on your broadband without giving up your internet connection,” he added. “Compare broadband packages to find the best deal for your budget using our postcode checker.”
