Vodafone cuts mobile broadband prices

Vodafone has reduced the cost of its mobile broadband packages to mark the launch of its new USB Stick Pro modem.

Continuing this week’s trend for new mobile broadband offers, Vodafone Broadband (www.Vodafone.co.uk) has launched a new mobile USB modem stick, which is capable of faster top speeds and comes with 4GB of integrated memory.

Vodafone has also reduced the cost of its mobile broadband 3GB and 5GB plans to just £10 and £15 month for the first three months on 24 month contracts. Costs return to the usual £15 and £25 a month thereafter.

It is also launching a new 1GB 30 day plan for Stick Lite users to complement its existing £20 a month 3GB 30 day plan.

The new USB Stick Pro modem is free for 5GB customers signing 18 or 24 month contracts and offers a theoretical maximum download speed of 7.2Mb and a theoretical maximum upload speed of 2Mb. Vodafone estimates that actual download speeds will vary between 1Mb and 5Mb while upload speeds will average 1Mb.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Although Vodafone offers some of the most cutting-edge mobile broadband technology - such as this new modem with built-in flash memory - its pricing is not as competitive.

“Even with these reduced-price three month offers, which are only available on a lengthy 24 month contract, providers such as 3 Broadband (www.Three.co.uk) still offer more for your money.

“For the same £25 a month that gets Vodafone customers a 5GB allowance, 3 customers can get 7GB and on a far shorter 12 month contract. Those willing to sign the ISPs longer 18 month contracts can get packages offering up to 15GB for £30 a month or 5GB a month for just £15,” he noted.
