O2 wins 'fastest broadband' award

O2, a relative newcomer to the broadband market, has won two awards for the Fastest Broadband and highest Customer Satisfaction.

At an annual internet awards ceremony, O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) - which is still less than a year old - swept up with an average of 6.12Mb and a customer rating of 3.84 out of 5.

BT (www.BT.com) took home the Wireless Broadband award for its new Home Hub 2.0 which doubles the reach of most wireless routers and also supports digital TV, while the UK’s second largest ISP Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) won the Broadband Bundle award for its double, triple and even quad-play offerings.

With its wide range of contract lengths, monthly download allowances and dongles and USB modem sticks, 3 (www.Three.co.uk) was the clear winner in the Mobile Broadband category, fighting off its more expensive rivals T-Mobile (www.T-Mobile.co.uk), Vodafone (www.Vodafone.co.uk), Orange (www.Orange.co.uk) and O2.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, commented on the winners. “Both O2 and 3 offer discounts to their existing customers - so O2 mobile phone customers can get £5 a month off their home broadband, and 3 mobile phone customers can get a 50 per cent reduction on their mobile broadband line rental," he said.

“These are great offers, and combined with the dedication both companies have shown towards improving the image of the broadband market through transparency and speed-honesty, they make for popular, value-packed packages.”
