Orange Broadband (www.Orange.co.uk) is set to launch broadband TV soon, following a deal with BT to use its network.
Orange (www.Orange.co.uk) is readying a launch into broadband TV, according to The Times.
Orange recently tied up with BT to offer home phone to Brits. Now, moving into IPTV - TV delivered via a household broadband connection - is on the cards.
Orange already has a successful TV operation in France, but it has been floating the idea of a TV service since August 2008.
The move would put Orange in a better position to market bundled packages to Brits - potentially including home phone, broadband, TV and mobile.
At the moment the digital TV market is dominated by Sky (www.Sky.com) and Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com). Meanwhile, BT Vision and TalkTalk also have smaller-scale TV operations.
The Times points out that Orange's merger with T-Mobile in the UK means that it has access to almost 30 million customers.
Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said: "This is an interesting twist, but it will take considerable clout to build-up a customer base for a new IPTV product. BT Vision already trails Virgin Media and Sky when it comes to customer uptake."
