Broadband provider promises wider network, faster internet and public Wi-Fi.
Sky has revealed its broadband plans for 2012 and beyond.
The broadband provider intends to extend its network to reach 88% of the UK by June 2013. If all goes according to plan, Sky broadband will be available to more than a million extra homes across the country.
There’s a lot planned for 2012 too. This year Sky will offer customers its first superfast fibre optic broadband packages. From April, customers will have access to download speeds of 40Mb, with no usage limits. Superfast broadband will initially be available to 30% of UK homes, and this should increase over the next few years as fibre roll-out projects progress.
Sky also revealed that is on the verge of launching its public Wi-Fi service. Sky Broadband Unlimited subscribers will be able to access Wi-Fi hotspots across the country for free. People hungry for public internet access will be pleased to hear that many of the hotspots will be in restaurants and cafes - confirmed locations include Caffe Nero, Pizza Express and Wagamama.
Stephen van Rooyen, managing director of Sky’s sales and marketing group, said: “This year sees a number of enhancements that will ensure we create even more choice. Whether it’s the launch of free public Wi-Fi, extending our network into more parts of the UK, or adding fibre to our product mix, we are focused on meeting the demands of customers and on being their number one choice for home communications.”
