TalkTalk is taking on BT by providing cut-price landline installation for home-movers.
TalkTalk (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) has launched a new attack on the dominance of the BT (www.BT.com) landline. The company is offering to install a new line when you move home for £29.99 for existing customers, or £59.99 for new customers.
In the past, home-movers would have to sign-up for a BT line at £122.50 plus a 12-month contract. Now, TalkTalk is offering to take them straight to an LLU unbundled service for much less.
TalkTalk, the pioneer of “free broadband” has one of the cheapest calls and broadband bundles with MyTalkTalk Essentials at £6.49 a month, plus £11.25 line rental.
Wendy Becker, managing direct of TalkTalk said: “Customers have more than enough to worry about when moving home, so we’re pleased to be able to take the hassle, and a lot of the cost, out of the process of getting your home phone and broadband up-and-running.”
TalkTalk’s parent, Carphone Warehouse, is now the UK’s biggest home broadband supplier, after having bought Tiscali for £236million on 8 May.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “This is another prong in TalkTalk’s campaign to build substantial market share. It’s great to see genuine competition entering the arena of landline installation.
“New customers should, though be aware that TalkTalk’s is a fully unbundled network. That means if they take up TalkTalk’s offer and then later want to switch back BT or another supplier, they will incur the full cost of BT landline installation at that point.”
