TalkTalk price increases

Costs including line rental and daytime call charges will increase from 1 April, broadband provider TalkTalk has announced.

A number of price changes will be made over a three month period, said the ISP, including a line rental increase from £10.50 a month to £11.25 a month, a call connection fee increase to 8p and a charge for exceeding monthly broadband download limits.

"TalkTalk is now making changes to pricing"

TalkTalk Broadband (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) said: “Due to the changes BT (www.BT.com) announced at the start of the year, TalkTalk is now making changes to pricing and the overall product to maintain their value proposition in the market.”

Although the cheap broadband provider will begin charging customers £5 if they exceed their 40GB download limit from 2 June and is putting up chargeable daytime call costs to 4.5p per minute from 1 April, some of TalkTalk’s plan changes will benefit customers.

From 2 June all 0870 and 0845 numbers will be included as “free” within inclusive call plans and customers will also be able to get 1GB of online backup and parental controls for free, and the Security Boost will be reduced to just £2 a month.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “40GB a month is a generous download allowance, but anyone worried about being charged for exceeding their limit should install our free Broadband Download Monitor to track downloads and make sure set alarms so that they don’t go over their limit.

“For £4 a month TalkTalk also offers a Mega Download Boost for heavy downloaders wanting to double their allowance to a massive 80GB a month.”

I have an ongoing complaint with TalkTalk regarding the 40Gb+ download fine. They say that if your exceed the 40Gb download limit then you will be fined £5 however, there is no way of knowing if you are near the 40Gb limit. TalkTalk's own Tech support, Customer Service and billing department say they can not tell how much has been downloaded on my account. They all say that when I exceed 40Gb I will automatically be charged by their system. If you exceed the limit several times, they are able to cancel your account. This can not be legal. I am raising the complaint with Ofcom and Otelo. - Jun 17 2009 4:32PM
I agree with R Bain. Increasing charges within a contract is an absolute con and I am not sure if this is entirely legal. I will persue this matter Talktalk! - May 15 2009 10:49AM

How can you enter into an 18month contract ,then TalkTalk increase the agreed price. What is the point of a contract,it is a total con.to get you to change,thenT/T can do what they like, with a heavy exit penalty .

I'm finding ot very difficult to compare prices from different companies. What I'm looking for is an ordinary Broadband connection with free phone calls anytime in the U.K., U.S.A. and Canada and (even for only a limited number of minutes) mobiles, plus clear information about the charges that would be made on this package for calls to 0845 and 087 numbers. Also, would there be any charge for making this change from our present Pipex supplier? - Apr 1 2009 12:57PM
