Costs including line rental and daytime call charges will increase from 1 April, broadband provider TalkTalk has announced.
A number of price changes will be made over a three month period, said the ISP, including a line rental increase from £10.50 a month to £11.25 a month, a call connection fee increase to 8p and a charge for exceeding monthly broadband download limits.
TalkTalk Broadband (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) said: “Due to the changes BT (www.BT.com) announced at the start of the year, TalkTalk is now making changes to pricing and the overall product to maintain their value proposition in the market.”
Although the cheap broadband provider will begin charging customers £5 if they exceed their 40GB download limit from 2 June and is putting up chargeable daytime call costs to 4.5p per minute from 1 April, some of TalkTalk’s plan changes will benefit customers.
From 2 June all 0870 and 0845 numbers will be included as “free” within inclusive call plans and customers will also be able to get 1GB of online backup and parental controls for free, and the Security Boost will be reduced to just £2 a month.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “40GB a month is a generous download allowance, but anyone worried about being charged for exceeding their limit should install our free Broadband Download Monitor to track downloads and make sure set alarms so that they don’t go over their limit.
“For £4 a month TalkTalk also offers a Mega Download Boost for heavy downloaders wanting to double their allowance to a massive 80GB a month.”
