TalkTalk unveils new router designs

TalkTalk unveils 'future' broadband routers

Tuesday, 21 July 2009 By Seamour Rathore seamour@consumerchoices.co.uk

Jellyfish and a 24-hour clock could take centre stage in your home after TalkTalk let Goldsmiths' students loose to design “future" broadband routers.

TalkTalk Broadband (www.TalkTalk.co.uk), one of the UK’s largest home broadband providers, has been working with students from Goldsmiths, University of London, to create routers of the future.

I’m rather fond of the jelly fish – it has a real wow factor

The students were asked to take into account four factors: signal strength, home style, energy efficiency and, finally, pure enjoyment. The idea was to move away from the uninspiring, dust-laden black box and look to the future.

TalkTalk’s communications director, Mark Schmid, said in a blog posting: “I’m sure you’ll agree our bit of future gazing has produced some provocative results. Personally, I’m rather fond of the jelly fish – it has a real wow factor.

“After getting a design make-over, perhaps now is the time to start thinking differently about the usually unloved router?”

Members of the public are being invited to visit www.futurerouters.com and vote for their favourite. TalkTalk will be considering the winning design for production.
