More than half of broadband users think that their broadband is too expensive, a new survey has claimed.

Despite the fact that internet prices have been falling for a number of years with a number of providers like TalkTalk Broadband (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) and Tiscali Broadband (www.Tiscali.co.uk) offering “free broadband” or “free line rental”, and that the UK has one of the most competitive broadband markets in the world, 54 per cent of broadband users still felt that their ISP charged too much.

"Switching your broadband provider is one of the best ways to free up some extra cash"

Just four per cent of the respondents on the survey claimed to be on a “free broadband” package, with 31.5 per cent paying between £16 and £20.99 a month for their broadband. 13.5 per cent paid up to £10.99 a month, while 18 per cent paid between £11 and £15.99 a month or between £21 and £24.99. 14 per cent paid over £26 a month for their broadband, with some dishing out more than £31 a month for their internet.

Although more than half of respondents are unhappy with the amount their paying each month, a recent survey showed that only 26 per cent of broadband users were planning on switching provider when their current contract ends.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Switching your broadband provider is one of the best ways to free up some extra cash, with savings of up to £150 to be made. And as well as getting yourself a cheaper monthly rate on your broadband, you could also find yourself a more suitable plan,” he added.
