Customers’ bills to increase by an average of around £2.68 a month.

Virgin Media has increased the price of some of its broadband packages.

On average, customers will see an increase of around £2.68 per month

The price changes will take place across a number of the cable provider’s bundles in April this year. For example, Virgin Media’s standalone L package now costs £22.50 - a price bump of £1.50 a month.

Other packages and bundles will also see price changes. For example, the provider’s most popular home phone and broadband bundle (L) has gone up by £1 a month. As of April, some call charges may also increase by 12%, and the times when customers are eligible for free calls are changing.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “As part of our on-going review of services, we’re making some changes to our cable pricing from April and we’re writing to those customers affected now to explain what’s happening. On average, customers will see an increase of around £2.68 per month.

“We will be proactively contacting existing customers in the coming weeks to make sure that they are on the best value package for them.”

Last month, Virgin Media announced it was doubling customers’ broadband speeds, but stressed to Broadbandchoices.co.uk that the recent price increases are not related to the initiative, which is funded by the £110 million the company got from selling its share in UKTV.

When the upgrades have been completed, customers should see no increase in their bill, the company said.
