Virgin Media intends to expand its network to potentially supply a further half a million homes and businesses.
Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) is planning to significantly expand its network for the first time for more than 10 years. The development was made public during a briefing to investors by chief executive Neil Berkett.

The cable media company will add new capability to premises near those with existing access, known as “infill”. The company expects the first 50,000 homes and businesses to have access by the end of 2009.
Currently around 50% of the UK's homes and businesses have access to Virgin Media’s cable network.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “This is a good way to expand the network without large-scale investment and should bring relief to people waiting to get Virgin's services, while their neighbours already enjoy them.
“Virgin Media is proceeding to lead way with trialling hi-speed products for domestic users, as well as launching its 50Mb broadband product in January, it is also trialling 200Mb broadband.”
