Despite the broadband slowdown, O2 has managed to add more than 70,000 new customers over the last three months.
Just one year on from its launch, O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) has reported a total broadband base to 267,090.

Matthew Key, chairman & chief executive of Telefónica Europe which owns O2, said: “We were very pleased that independent market surveys continued to rate O2 as the fastest broadband with the highest customer satisfaction.”
The company took on 72, 870 new customers in the last three months - an increase on its previous quarter - at a time when many other providers such as Tiscali Broadband (www.Tiscali.co.uk) and Orange Broadband (www.Orange.co.uk) have been feeling the pinch and experiencing slowdowns and even declines.
Tiscali reported that it had lost more than 60,000 customers since the second quarter of 2008 while Orange experienced a loss of around 40,000 customers for the second quarter in a row. Both BT Broadband (www.BT.com) and Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) announced plans to cut jobs over the next few years.
Although O2’s quarter million customers still leaves it some way behind other big providers, Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said that it was a big achievement for a company that only entered the broadband market a year ago. “O2’s commitment to quality and support - not to mention the great discounts it offers its existing mobile phone customers have made it a very popular provider,” he said.
