Mobile network coverage is of key importance when it comes to mobile broadband. If you cannot get 3G coverage in your area then you will not be able to access the internet using mobile broadband.
If you live in a big city then you can pretty much guarantee a good O2 Mobile Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) availability, however you should always do a postcode search to make sure you’ll get an adequate connection in your area.
The O2 mobile broadband map (right) highlights where O2 coverage is available and where it may be worth looking for an alternative. As with most networks, O2 offers good cover in and around big cities as well as in most parts of the south cost and western England. However, there is very limited coverage in Wales, Scotland and Northern England.
While the map is a good indicator, before signing up for O2 mobile broadband, you should visit the company's website and run a postcode search. This will give you an even clearer idea of whether O2's service will work in the areas where you may need it.
There are a number of factors that can influence the quality of your network connection, and therefore your connection speed. The closer you are to the nearest mobile phone mast the better your connection is likely to be. Also, the more people that are online at the same time, the more congestion there will be on the network.
Finally, any obstacles between you and your local mast - such as other buildings and even trees - will also affect your signal quality.
Remember, just because one mobile network offers good reception in your area it is always worth checking out the competition to ensure that you have the best deal. You can use our mobile broadband comparison tool to find the best mobile broadband package for you.
As with all mobile broadband providers, O2 offers customers a choice of pay-as-you-go mobile broadband plus a number of monthly contract options. O2 also give you the option of a free laptop with a 24-month plan.

Mobile broadband from O2 offers speeds of up to 3.6Mb, however your connection speed will depend on a number of factors, such as the package you choose and the quality of the coverage in your area.
