Very high Speed DSL. This is a DSL line, but faster.

Video conferencing

Real time visual and audio connection connecting two or more people over the internet.

Video on Demand (VoD)

Allows you to watch selected programmes or films when you want over the internet or via digital TV.

Virtual circuit

This is needed to connect your computer to your ISP. Your provider will indicate which virtual circuit combination (VCI/VPI) is used for your service.

Virtual server

A web server supporting a number of sites, each with their own domain name and IP address.

Virus

A harmful program that can leave your computer open to hackers. Viruses are usually transmitted via email or unauthorised programs.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Uses broadband to make very cheap or even free calls over the internet.
