FAQ's about getting broadband without a landline

Cable broadband is the answer

Cable broadband is the only way to get online without having to pay line rental.

Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) is the largest cable broadband provider in the land, covering roughly half of the UK's population. Virgin's broadband-only packages start from £17.50 per month for speeds up to 10Mb. Speeds up to 50Mb per second, the fastest in the UK, are available on Virgin's XXL Package.

Alternative cable broadband providers exist, however, they are found only in localised parts of the country. For example, people living in Dundee, Bournemouth and Leeds can get fibre optic broadband both from Virgin Media and rival provider Fibrecity.

Can I still keep my number?

Ditching the landline could save you nearly £160 a year - that's £13.29 per month over 12 months. But are there any drawbacks?

If you're switching from BT, or any other provider, you can normally keep your phone number and stop paying line rental altogether.

If you'd like to do this, just fill in the 'keeping your own number' bit on Virgin Media's online order form. Virgin will transfer your number when they install your services and this will close your BT account. You'll receive a final bill from BT around a week after you switch your number to Virgin.

Ready to switch?

If you're ready to switch, you can buy online at www.VirginMedia.com. Simply choose your package and follow the on-screen instructions

Once you've signed up to Virgin Media, call your existing provider to cancel your services. You'll usually need to give 30 days' notice. This is it!

How will Virgin install my services?

Virgin Media's engineers will run a pencil thin cable from their network, underground through your front garden, to a small box which they fix to the side of your house.

If you've chosen digital TV, a Virgin Media engineer will set up your set top box. And if it's broadband, they'll fit your new modem and show you how to install the super fast broadband services.

I rent my flat or house. Can I still have Virgin Media services installed?

Yes, but you'll need to have the consent of your landlord first. Simply fill in their details in the permission part of your online order form and Virgin Media will ask for their permission. Visit www.VirginMedia.com to get started.
