Tiscali Broadband launches Music for Life download service

Tiscali has become the second broadband provider to offer its own music download service, offering single tracks from just 42p.

Tiscali Broadband (www.Tiscali.co.uk) is also offering all new customers 50 free tracks as part of a 14-day free trial. The new download site offers access to over 6.5m MP3s as part of a partnership with online digital music retailer eMusic.

Neal McCleave, senior director of online at TalkTalk Broadband (www.Talktalk.co.uk), which owns Tiscali, said: “We are always looking for ways to enhance our portal and offer the best services to our 6 million users. The Music for Life service will be a great boost to our entertainment content and offers a huge range of tracks at very competitive prices.”

The service features established artists such as Johnny Cash, Paul Weller and The White Stripes, as well as current acts like Vampire Weekend, Temper Trap and Adele.

Sky Broadband (www.Sky.com) launched its own music download service, Sky Songs, last month and Virgin Media (www.Virginmedia.com) is in the process of developing a similar service.

Michael Phillips, Broadbandchoices.co.uk product director, said: “At just 42p a track, Tiscali’s new service is far cheaper than many of its competitors - Sky, for example, charges 65p for an out of bundle track, and iTunes charges 79p per track.

“Recent research found that legal music downloads could double if track prices dropped to 45p - and Tiscali has gone even lower.”
