Virgin Media bundles - get the most from your broadband and TV

All-in-one broadband, home phone and digital TV

If you're looking to bundle your broadband with other services, then a package from Virgin Media (www.Virginmedia.com) could save you money as well as getting you a great service.

Cable provider Virgin Media offers one the biggest ranges of products on the market. As well as broadband bundles that can be combined with home phone and digital TV channels, the provider also offers mobile broadband and even mobile phone deals.

The fastest broadband

Using its high-tech cable network Virgin Media is able to offer some of the fastest, most reliable broadband. If offers four different packages at speeds of up to:

• 10Mb broadband
• 30Mb broadband
• 50Mb broadband
• 100Mb broadband

But as well as superfast headline speeds, Virgin Media also delivers the fastest actual speeds. Research by telecoms regulator Ofcom in July 2010 found that the provider delivered an average of 15.7Mb on its old 20Mb broadband package. This was more than double the speed managed by its copper wire telephone competitors who averaged just 6.5Mb.

Its customers can enjoy more than 90% of their advertised speeds, says Virgin Media, and even those on its cheapest 10Mb L broadband package typically receive 9.68Mb.

Cable digital TV

Virgin Media’s superfast broadband can be bundled with one of three different digital TV packages. You can choose from 65 channels, 100 channels or a massive 160 channels with the top XL package.

But it’s not just a great choice of digital television channels that Virgin Media’s cable TV service offers. You can also watch thousands of hours of on-demand programmes, and can even access the BBC iPlayer, the ITV Player and Channel 4’s 4oD direct to your TV.

You also get the option to add premium channels, such as Sky Sports and Sky Movies, and get a choice of different set-top boxes to really make the most of your TV.

The V HD box comes as standard, allowing you to watch programmes in high-definition (HD), depending on your subscription. If you want more from your box, you can upgrade to a V+ HD box that also lets you pause, rewind and record “live” TV.

Virgin Media is also set to roll out its brand new internet-enabled TiVo box with a terabyte of storage and an even bigger selection of on-demand TV.

Virgin Media offers three standard home phone packages; Talk Weekends, Talk Evening & Weekends and Talk Unlimited. You can also add Talk Mobile or Talk International if you make a lot of calls abroad or to mobiles.

To sign-up to any of these packages, you must also take a Virgin Media phone line at £13.90 a month.

Although Virgin Media doesn’t offer the cheapest home phone call rates, the money you save by taking a bundle could make up for this. However, if you do make a lot of calls from your landline, you should look at all the options before signing up.
