Well known for its great value broadband packages, Primus has yet to launch a fibre connection.
For its standard broadband connection, Primus (www.Primussaver.co.uk) utilises TalkTalk’s wholesale broadband network.
While Primus doesn’t have any fibre broadband products available at present, it is working with TalkTalk (www.Talktalk.co.uk) on running fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) trials. FTTC is where fibre cable connects the local telephone exchange to the green cabinet on your street with the final stretch, from the cabinet to your house, comprising of traditional copper wire.
Once the trials are complete, Primus will be able to provide customers with an up to 40Mb broadband connection, and shortly after, an up to 100Mb broadband connection.
Primus anticipates the release of its fibre products early in 2012.
If you can’t wait that long, use the Broadbandchoices.co.uk postcode checker to see alternative options in your area.
Last year, the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, outlined the government’s £830million strategy to build the best broadband network in Europe by 2015. Plans include the creation of a “digital hub” in every community in the UK, closing the connectivity divide between urban and rural areas.
Purpose designed for superfast information transfer, fibre does not suffer the same slowing of connection speed - through distance from the telephone exchange and the quality of the line - as traditional copper wire.
This means providers can deliver speeds much closer to the “up to” speeds advertised, plus a range of other benefits:
| Supplier | Speed (up to) | Usage limit | Contract length | Monthly charge | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phone and Broadband Saver | 14Mb | 40GB | 18 months | £2.99 Exclusive offer | Call Primus on 0800 036 0391 |
