What does Be Broadband offer?

Be Broadband offers a choice of three packages; Be Value, which for £14 a month, comes with up to 8Mb broadband, “unlimited” downloads (fair usage applies) and an upload speed to up to 1.3Mb - much higher than the standard 448Kb most ISPs offer.

The Be Unlimited package costs £18 a month and comes with the same “unlimited” downloads and fast uploads but offers Be’s renowned 24Mb download speeds.

Finally, the Be Pro package costs £22 a month, offering speeds of up to 24Mb, “unlimited” downloads, a free static IP address, and the option to increase their upload speed to a whopping 2.5Mb.

All Be Broadband customers receive a free wireless modem, the “Be Box”, and can manage their accounts online.

As with all high-speed broadband connections, the speed advertised is the maximum you’ll receive. The actual bandwidth will depend on how close you are to your BT exchange, the quality of the copper connection, and signal interference.

Are there any drawbacks to using Be Broadband?

At present Be Broadband isn’t available to the whole of the UK. Be uses a process called Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), and you’ll only be able to get Be if your local exchange has been “unbundled” and Be has installed its own equipment.

Is it right for me?

Be Broadband is great for heavy broadband users who want a super-fast, reliable service for downloading music and movies, home office use, or online gamers.

Be achieved more than 85 per cent satisfaction in an independent customer survey by consumer watchdog Which? in 2008, based on both overall satisfaction and the likelihood that customers would recommend the ISP to a friend.

The average score for other providers was only 49 per cent in the survey covering overall satisfaction, customer service, ease of setup, connection speed, reliability and technical support.

Be Broadband won the “Best sumo Consumer Broadband” award at the 2006 Internet Service Provider’s Association annual awards. It was also a runner up in the 2007 category for the “Best Consumer Broadband” award with a special mention from the judges. “A commendation is awarded to Be Unlimited for pushing the limits of broadband capabilities in a consumer market by being bold and offering ‘up to 24 meg broadband’,” they said.

Be also won the PC Advisor magazine “Best Uncapped Broadband” award in 2007.
