BT Home IT service a HIT

(17-01-08) - More than a million minutes of help and advice have been clocked up by BT’s Home IT (HIT) squad since the service was launched a year and a half ago.

More than a million minutes of help and advice have been clocked up by BT’s Home IT (HIT) squad since the service was launched a year and a half ago.

The majority of the 166,000 hours of support has been provided to help confused consumers with wireless broadband connections.

BT (www.BT.com) announced that it had dealt with more than 33,000 wireless queries, over 22,000 calls regarding viruses and spyware, and 16,000 email related problems.

BT says that its HIT squad has a 95 per cent success rate, with technicians remotely accessing home computers in order to solve problems - regardless of who customers get their broadband from.

With more than 800 computer engineers, customers can also request a home visit and more than 100,000 homes have now been visited, and because of the popularity of the service, BT plans to invest a further £45 million over the next five years.

Emma Sanderson, director of value added services, BT Retail, said: “Customers love the fact that help is always just a phone call away and that our experts will try to deal with every aspect of their problem from beginning to end.”

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, added: “This service, and the similar Geek Squad, is great for technophobe internet users, allowing people who would normally shy away from anything but the most basic broadband use to take advantage of wireless broadband, remote access to the office and virus prevention and removal.”

The BT Home IT call service costs £9.99 for a three month subscription.
