O2 today became the first provider to offer a combined home and mobile broadband package; the Complete Broadband Experience (01-08-08).
Any customers taking O2's (www.O2.co.uk) mobile broadband package at £20 a month will now also get its Standard package free for a year.

"Our combined broadband package is the perfect combination to help [our customers] stay connected wherever they are"

O2 mobile broadband comes with a 3GB monthly download allowance, a free USB modem stick and unlimited access to over 7,500 wireless hotspots from The Cloud. Any data used over the 3GB allowance will be charged at 20p per MB.
The free home broadband on offer - the Standard package - usually costs £7.50 for existing O2 customers or £12.50 for non-customers. It comes with an up to 8Mb connection, “unlimited” downloads (a fair usage policy applies) and a free wireless router as well as a host of other benefits such as free McAfee security software, free, UK-based customer service and all your O2 emails pushed to your mobile for free.
Any customers wanting to upgrade to a faster package can do so by paying the difference, making the up to 16Mb Premium package an additional £2.50 a month or the 20Mb Ultimate package £7.50 a month. The access package, for customers not covered by O2’s own broadband network, costs an extra £10 a month.
Sally Cowdry, marketing director, O2 UK, said: “Whether our customers are watching a video or playing a game online at home, or browsing the internet on their laptop while on the move, our combined broadband package is the perfect combination to help them stay connected wherever they are.”
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, added: “This really is a great offer for anyone who wants both home and mobile broadband - and in less than a year O2 has proved itself to be a dependable supplier offering fast, reliable home broadband.
“However, O2’s mobile broadband is more expensive than its competitors, and you should also bear in mind that the mobile broadband package has an 18 month contract, but the home broadband is only free for a year - so you could end up having to pay out quite a lot for the last six months if you want to keep your fixed line connection.”
From Monday O2 will also be launching Home Broadband Takeaway boxes, which any customer can purchase in-store for £30. The package includes a wireless router and all the kit you need to get started with O2 Home Broadband. The initial £30 cost of the box will be credited to your first broadband bill.
