Orange sales drop as connection fee is introduced

Orange store staff have reported a massive drop in broadband sales after a £30 connection fee was introduced two weeks ago.
“Sales have plummeted to less than half they were before the connection charge came in,” staff told Mobile Today.
Orange (www.Orange.co.uk) has received bad press recently regarding its broadband packages and customer service, and its most recent quarterly results showed that it had actually lost customers with numbers falling from 1,142,000 in Q3 2007 to 1,138,000 at the end of Q4 2007.
An Orange spokesman said: “Our broadband network has been improved and comprehensive programmes are in place to improve it further.
“The £30 connection charge brings the price in line with our competitors, and new customer offers are also in place. We’ve got 1.14 million users and that’s up 7 per cent on last year.”
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Although Orange’s statement indicates that it has managed to replace its lost customers, it still has a long way to go if it is to restore faith in its broadband packages that have been criticised for poor speeds, inconsistent service and poor customer relations.”
Orange said it now has a “long term plan” in place to improve its broadband service.
