PlusNet launches Gamer’s tariff
(20-09-07) - A new broadband package that uses positive traffic shaping, offers low ping rates and even a free computer game has been launched by PlusNet (www.Plus.net).
The new Broadband Your Way Pro package prioritises all gaming and VoIP traffic and customers can even choose to have interleaving turned off on their connection to reduce latency and improve speeds.
Neil Armstrong, PlusNet products director, said: “There’s nothing worse than poor broadband connections when it comes to broadband gaming - in fact in some cases, during certain online games, it can make the difference between virtual life and death.
“We listened to our customers and gaming fans and have developed a service tailored to their specific needs,” he added.
The new package costs £19.99 and offers download speeds of up to 8Mb and is on a month-by-month contract. Customers also have static IP and ‘interleaving off’ options and can add extra usage to the standard 10GB allowance if they need to. The monthly usage allowance applies to downloads between 8am and midnight - overnight downloading and gaming usage is free.
PlusNet is also offering a free four-port wireless router to customers signing a 12 month contract and all customers will be offered a choice from three games for PC, Xbox360 or Playstation 3 including Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and Settlers: Rise of an Empire.
Last month, Freedom2surf (www.Freedom2surf.net) launched its own Broadband 4 Gamers tariff that claims to reduce ping by “up to 50 per cent”.
Chris Eagle, BroadbandChoices.co.uk commercial manager, said: “With providers making increasing use of negative traffic shaping and bandwidth throttling in order to cope with demand on their networks, online gamers are suffering. A tariff targeted specifically at gamers allows them to get the most out of their broadband package and really get what they pay for.”
