Post Office to deliver BT broadband

(22-05-07) - The Post Office is to be BT’s first big customer for its white label managed services, and will be selling its own broadband tariffs in the near future. (www.bt.com)

While the Post Office Broadband itself will manage the marketing and selling of its new services, BT will be responsible for the hardware and customer services side.

The new BT white label managed services allow high street names with no broadband network or customer services to offer their own internet packages and compete in the growing UK market.

BT sees its new services as a way into the broadband market without the “operational and financial risk of running a network and developing new service offerings.”

The Post Office will pay BT Wholesale £750 million over four years, and will be providing broadband and VoIP. The company currently has 400,000 home phone customers, who have been promised a ‘seamless’ upgrade. Tariff prices have not yet been announced.

Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at www.broadbandchoices.co.uk, commented: “The Post Office will be a welcome addition to the list of UK ISPs, particularly as they are likely to let customers pay by cheque. In a Direct Debit-dominated marketplace, this will be excellent news for traditionalists.”
