Background – Direct Save Telecom (www.DirectSaveTelecom.co.uk) has been providing cheap calls and line rental in the UK since 1999 and they now also offer up to 8Mb broadband. Their broadband comes as part of the ever-popular bundle, with their phone services. There is no contract to sign, but there is a set up fee of £40 as well as an exit fee if you leave within 12 months.

Awards – There are no published awards for Direct Save.
Suitability – Direct Save broadband is good for people who don’t want to sign a contract as they won’t have to see out the remainder of their payments if they want to cancel before their year is up. However, the set up and exit fees mean that you won’t get away without paying something. Their broadband is advertised as “unlimited” but is subject to a fair usage policy of 20GB a month for peak time users, so is best suited to those who use the internet a lot at home during the day rather than evenings and weekends.
Our verdict – Direct Save is the only provider offering a no-contract package that includes telephone calls. Their call centre is also located in the UK which many customers will consider a plus point.
