Background – Although O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) is a new provider in the market, it owns the established Be Broadband network which it will be using to provider both O2 mobile and non-O2 customers with broadband packages. Its packages are very good value for pay-monthly mobile customers but are more expensive for pay-as-you-go and non-O2 mobile customers.
Awards– Having only launched on 15 October 2007 it is still too early for O2 Broadband to be considered for any awards.
Suitability – O2 Broadband is an excellent choice for customers wanting super-fast broadband and the Be network is known to be reliable. It is also looking to attract customers who have had bad experiences with other providers by offering free, UK-based tech support 24-hours a day.
O2 will also conduct a line test before installing your broadband so that it can recommend the correct package, and then another line test a month later so that it can move customers to one of its more appropriate packages if customers are not receiving the speed they pay for.
Our verdict – O2 is so confident that customers will be happy with the service they receive that it is offering a 100-day money back guarantee for anyone signing up before the end of January 2008.
It has clearly done its research before launching its three packages and listened to the many gripes that broadband users have about their current services. Offering line tests and free, UK-based tech support at a time when providers are scoring poorly on promised speeds and charging customers to ring expensive, foreign call centres will make it a popular addition to the market.
