Background – Eclipse Internet (www.Eclipse.net.uk) was launched in 1995 with just £20,000 and launched a dial-up internet service in 1996 and its first national broadband service arrived in 2001. It was the first UK broadband service simple enough to be installed at home without the need for an IT expert or engineer. In 2002, Eclipse became the first UK ISP to offer online ordering for SDSL (business ADSL).
Awards – Best Business Broadband Provider, ISPA Awards 2003, Young IT Practitioner of the Year Award, British Computer Society 2003, Best Heavy Business Broadband, ISPs’ Association Awards 2005, highly commended for reliability and service, PC Pro Awards 2005.
Suitability – Eclipse are an excellent choice for people switching providers as they could get a month’s free broadband. They are also a good choice for people who feel less than confident with their computers as they offer excellent customer service from a UK call centre. They also offer very good packages for small businesses and home offices.
Our verdict – They focus is on customer support and in this they provide a first class service. We recommend their no-contract package, especially if you already have your own modem (as long as it’s supported by Eclipse) as you can save on fees.
