Background - To have TalkTalk (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) broadband you must take their phone line and call package - which will give you very competitive, and often free calls within the UK and abroad. However, the pioneers of free broadband, experienced far higher than anticipated demand for their offer and customers were left waiting months to be connected. Call centres couldn’t cope with the levels of calls and they confessed that they had underestimated how popular it would prove.

Suitability - TalkTalk bundles are suitable for people who are high-end home phone users, but for whom broadband is not the highest priority. They do offer very competitive pricing so for people wanting to save, this could also be an option - but bear in mind that you will get what you’re paying for.
Our verdict - While it is a very competitive offer, they’ve had, and continue to have, problems maintaining their customer base and connecting new users. TalkTalk say that the connection waiting time is now down to a month, but many people are still waiting longer than this.
If you’re a medium to high end broadband user wanting to make downloads, watch videos online and use social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, then this probably isn’t the best choice for you. However, if your main priority is a very cheap home phone package, with broadband as an attractive extra, then that’s just what you’ll get with TalkTalk.
