Tiscali enters Top 5

(19-07-07) - Tiscali (www.Tiscali.co.uk), the broadband, home phone and digital TV provider has made it into Epitiro’s top five consumer ADSL broadband providers for the first time.

BT (www.BT.com), Demon (www.Demon.net) and Pipex (www.Pipex.com) consistently maintain positions in the review, conducted by Epitiro - the UK’s leading Customer Experience Management provider for internet access services - each quarter.

However, in the survey which tests internet services from the end-users’ perspective looking at issues such as download speeds and reliability, TalkTalk (www.TalkTalk.co.uk) lost its listing from the last quarter. Plusnet (www.Plus.net) re-entered the table for the first time since the third quarter of 2006.

Gavin Johns, Managing Director of Epitiro, said: “Tiscali achieved the highest connection speed in the report with BT offering the fastest FTP and HTTP download speed, which normally reflects the speed of general web browsing.”

With the lowest packet loss rates, BT and Pipex were found to be the best choice for VoIP users, while Demon had the lowest percentage of connection failures. However, BT had poor ping response rates, making it a bad choice for online gamers.

Chris Eagle, BroadbandChoices.co.uk commercial manager, said: “The Epitiro survey is a great way for consumers to get an end-user look at providers before they sign up to lengthy contracts.

“However, it currently doesn’t include ADSL2+ and cable in its research. And although it has plans to do so in the future, at the moment, customers considering these technologies, with a company like Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com), might find it difficult to compare them to ADSL providers like BT and Tiscali.

“Customers also need to take into account the standard of customer service provided by ISPs before signing up,” he added.
