Tiscali pases 1.5m broadband mark
(14-09-07) - Italian broadband provider Tiscali (www.Tiscali.co.uk) has published its results for the first half of the year, announcing a customer boost to over 1.5 million broadband lines.
The additional Pipex (www.Pipex.com) customer base that it bought this year brings the total owned lines to almost two million, though it is still running the Pipex brand.
The company recently launched Tiscali TV nationwide after buying the former HomeChoice network and expanding it across the UK to now reach around five million homes. But broadband still makes up 67 per cent of the group’s revenue.
It added: “The physiological decrease of dial-up users and revenues has been more than compensated by the increase of ADSL revenues, thanks to the success of the migration of customers from narrowband to broadband access.”
Its results also showed that its focus on local loop unbundling was paying off and that it has now unbundled 800 exchanges, covering 55 per cent of UK households.
As it unbundles more exchanges, Tiscali is offering customers free line rental if they switch to its fully unbundled service, covering broadband, home phone and line rental. Customers also living in a Tiscali TV area can get an extremely competitive tripleplay bundle of digital TV, broadband and home phone starting from only £19.99 a month, with no extra line rental to pay.
Chris Eagle, BroadbandChoices.co.uk commercial manager, said: “As it rolls out to more customers, Tiscali TV will become a fierce competitor in the tripleplay bundle market.
“However, before customers rush to move to fully unbundled lines, they should make sure that they’re fully aware of the possible difficulties they might face in trying to get back to the BT network,” he added.
