Trouble Shooting Guide
Some of our users have experienced problems downloading or installing the Broadband Downloads Monitor (BDM). This page gives you a guide to troubleshooting.
If you use Norton / McAfee / AVG / etc anti-virus software you will get messages telling you that the BDM could be a virus or an malicious piece of software. You will need to tell your anti-virus software to proceed with the installation, otherwise the BDM will not be installed.
Connecting to the Internet
Your anti virus software may also warn you the the BDM will try and access the internet. Depending on your anti virus software, you will need to tell your software that the BDM is allowed to connect to the internet. If the BDM cannot connect to the internet the software will not function.
Problems with ".net framework v2.0"
The Broadband Download Monitor (BDM) requires your version of microsoft windows to have a .net framework v2.0 installed. This sounds very complicated, but it nothing to worry about. Let us explain…
If you don’t have .net framework v2.0 installed, the set up file you download for the BDM with attempt to download and install it for you.
This download could take a little while as this file size is 22Mb in size.
If you have it already installed there is nothing to worry about
Alternatively you can visit the Microsoft site and download it (the link is listed on the righthand side of this page)
For your BDM software to function, it must connect to the internet each time you start using your broadband, this happens automatically.
Your Firewall may block the BDM from connecting to the internet preventing your downloads from being counted.
To stop this happening, the BDM will need to be added to the “allow list” of your firewall software / hardware.
Follow your software instructions by the manufacturer.
Will the BDM detect my download limit?
The BDM counts your downloads, you will have to tell the BDM what your limit of target is. Double click on the downward arrow icon to load the DBM Configuration Screen, then set your limit.
