MAC Broadband without a Phone Line - Ask Our Expert

If you’re having technical, service or supply problems, or just have a question you want answering, why not write to OurExpert@BroadbandChoices.co.uk

Michael Phillips is product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk and can help with anything from contractual problems, to giving technical advice or telling you how to speed up those slow movie downloads.

Q - Dear Michael,

I have recently been given a new Apple Mac pc and would like to be able to work from home occasionally.

I would like email facility and web and will very occasionally be downloading high resolution photographs. I want a package that would be for light to average use but I don’t want to have a landline installed. Are there any providers that don’t require you to have a phone installed?

Janey Hulme, via email

Our expert says...

Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com)can provide you with an up to 2Mb broadband connection for only £10 a month and you don’t need a phone line. This is by far the cheapest around as you won’t have to pay line rental.

£10 a month is a one year offer, after which time the cost goes up to £18 a month. But as your contract would be up then you would be able to switch to another provider if you wanted to. There is also a £25 installation fee.

Virgin Broadband modems are Apple Mac compatible too so that’s not a problem and the package is perfect for a light user.

You can sign up for the Virgin Media offer on our site - we also have a postcode checker so you can see what else is available too.

You might also want to try using VoIP if you have a cable connection as you’ll still be able to make phone calls, via the internet, from home without having to have a phone line.
