Existing customers can get online wherever

Mobile broadband from only £5

Virgin Media is offering new and existing customers access to its mobile broadband services for just £5 a month.

From today, customers on the provider’s XL or L cable broadband packages - or those on ADSL Bundle 1 - will now be able to sign up to the £5 a month mobile broadband deal.

"Great for people who need home broadband but also want access to the internet on the move"

The package has a 1GB monthly download allowance, with additional usage charged at 1.46p per MB and customers must sign a 12 month contract and pay £25 for their dongle.

Customers on the M cable broadband, ADSL Bundle 2 or basic ADSL broadband can also get a reduced mobile broadband package at £10 a month.

According to Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) the 1GB allowance is enough for 10,000 plain text emails or around 700 emails, plus 33 hours of web surfing, 66 music tracks and 33 two minute videos.

Graeme Oxby, Virgin Media’s managing director for Mobile, said: “Our 1GB mobile broadband is great for people who need home broadband but also want access to the internet on the move. The bundle is exceptional value and offers complete peace of mind, not only because it comes from genuine broadband experts but also because it offers the safety net of considerably cheaper rates if customers go over the monthly data allowance.”

Non-Virgin Media customers can still sign up to the cable provider’s recently launched mobile broadband services, which use the T-Mobile Broadband (www.T-Mobile.co.uk) network and have a theoretical top speed of 3.6Mb. As a standalone service the package costs £15 a month but comes with a far more generous 3GB allowance.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “This offer is great for any Virgin Media customers wanting to try out mobile broadband on the cheap. However, users need to be careful and keep an eye on how much they’re surfing and downloading, or they could end up with a far higher bill at the end of the month if they’ve exceeded their low 1GB limit.

“Install our free Broadband Download Monitor to ensure you never go over your limit,” he advised.
