Pipex in the dog house as Bulldog call centres close

(19-05-07) - Pipex has announced that it is closing the UK call centres for Bulldog, the broadband provider it bought last year.

According to The Register, staff at Bulldog’s call centres have been told that their services will not be needed in 90 days’ time. The Register’s Chris Williams said yesterday: “When we called the Bulldog technical support line this morning, an agent dodged the question of where the service would go, until eventually denying that support would be offshored.”

Pipex has not confirmed that this will be the case, but has released a statememnt, saying: “Pipex has no plans to reduce the level of support for customers with a Bulldog service nor has it any plans to change the way that the customer can contact the support teams." The Register claims that this simply means the customer service line will remain on the current phone number.

Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at www.broadbandchoices.co.uk, commented: “This is potentially more misery for Bulldog customers, who have been treated badly in the past. Pipex should be upfront and tell their users what is going on, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a significant number decided to switch to a more reliable supplier.”

Those customers who wish to switch away from Bulldog might face a difficult time. If you want to switch, you must contact BT to arrange for your phone line to go back to BT, or cancel your current phone line and get a new one installed (at a cost of £120).
